Sciatica is usually caused by sciatic nerve compression and is characterized by pain that originates in the lower back that travels into one or both legs. The sciatic nerve starts in the lower back and extends into the lower leg, passing through several muscles on the way.
Pain is described as dull, achy, sharp, or pins and needles. Other symptoms include burning, numbness, and tingling sensations. Disorders known to cause sciatic nerve pain include lumbar spine misalignments, herniated or bulging discs, slipped discs, pregnancy and childbirth. Sciatica can also present when certain muscles are too tight and pressing directly on the nerve.
Our treatment for sciatica may include chiropractic adjustments, hot and cold therapy, stretching, trigger point therapy, and physical rehabilitation.
